About Me
Kristen Mahler
I'm a naturalist landscape designer based on the Mornington Peninsula, creating gardens that are grounded in the Australian landscape and guided by the principles of ecological integrity and timeless design. My approach is deeply influenced by the philosophy of Gordon Ford — the forefather of naturalist landscape design — and honed through my experience working with Sam Cox, one of Australia’s leading naturalist landscape designers.
With a background in horticulture and a deep respect for native ecology, I design landscapes that reflect the character of the land. My work favours natural materials, water-wise plantings, and forms that blend seamlessly with their surroundings. I believe gardens should be wild yet intentional — places that invite reflection, connection, and life.
Working across coastal, rural, and bushland properties, I collaborate closely with clients to shape spaces that feel authentic, enduring, and deeply rooted in place. Living on the Mornington Peninsula, I take constant inspiration from its rugged beauty — from windswept dunes to quiet creeks and native woodlands.
Each project is an opportunity to restore harmony between people and the natural world. Through thoughtful design, I aim to create landscapes that are not only beautiful, but resilient, sustainable, and alive.
